“Go beyond your comfort zone.”

I was reading an interesting article in Forbes Magazine earlier about the difference in people who go into business for themselves and those who don’t.

The bottom of the article popped out at me:

“So far there is one other big difference between those who go into business for themselves and those who don’t, Shaver says. Entrepreneurs don’t care what other people think about them. “They really don’t care as much,” Shaver says. “They’re just happy to go ahead and do what they’re doing.” “

~ Forbes Magazine

I’m not so sure that that entrepreneurs never care what other people think about them, however they likely have controlled their fears of what others think of them. They don’t see “failure” the same way that others perceive it, and are persistent in working towards achieving a goal.

Being constantly concerned about what others think of your plans or ideas can be a major factor in not carrying through with something. There are times of course where one should consider the ideas and thoughts of others but often we’ll let the expectations of others get in our way.

I had a personal experience with this recently where there was a fear of what a close relative would think and react to some events in my life. But in order to truly continue on the path I want to be on, I had to face that fear and realize that ultimately, my happiness did not depend upon this one person’s approval if it was important enough to me. Facing fears and doing something about them can be a very liberating experience! As I’ve written before, often the things we fear the most are the ones that are most unlikely to ever occur. And yet those fears can hold individuals back from moving towards what they want.

What is holding you back from something you’d like to accomplish?
