Only two things are needed to be successful. First, decide exactly what it is you want. Most people never do that. Second, determine the price you’re going to have to pay to get it, and then resolve to pay the price.”~ H. L. Hunt

There are a number of excellent programs you can purchase and free information you can find that can help you increase your income. Many people purchase the programs or peruse the information available to them, but never get any closer to realizing their dreams.

I was once like that myself. Then, about 15 years ago, I discovered the power of goal setting. From experience, I know its power! I know that when I set goals for the future, I achieve much more than those periods of time when I have not set specific clear goals for myself and for my businesses.

Once you have set goals, there are techniques that you can use to assure an ever greater rate of achieving the goals - but the very act of setting a goal - even if you set it aside and never look at it again - means you will have a greater chance of achieving something you want to do than those who never set clear, specific goals.

Let’s understand that there is an enormous difference between a goal and a dream. Dreams are hazy and have no deadlines attached to them. Goals are usually (we’ll discuss qualitative goals and where they fit into your life) tangible and quantitative. You should also have long term goals and short term goals.

Although we’re mostly discussing how to earn money and revenues using the Internet, I believe that before you can do anything serious, you really must sit down and write out your goals. You should think about all areas of your life when setting goals:

  • Family& Personal
  • Physical & health
  • Career
  • Financial/material
  • Personal development

Being negligent in setting goals in all these areas may cause you some grief down the road. Your life may become unbalanced. Again, this is something I know from experience - when I focussed only on financial goals, the results were poorer health and less personal development.

And with that in mind, when setting goals in the various areas of your life, you must also remember that those goals must not conflict with each other. A goal, that in order to achieve it, means not enough time or resources to achieve the goals in the other areas of your life will create unbalance and eventually frustration and discouragement.

Goals are like a rudder in your life. When things go wrong or not as expected (as they often will), having goals and a clear vision will help you keep your motivation. Once you have made an effort to determine what you really want in life, and realize that you are prepared to make conscious efforts in their achievement, then you will be rise above the crowd and instead of simply being a talker or a dreamer, you will see and experience positive changes in both your personal life and financial situation.

In the next couple of days, we’ll discuss more about the techniques you can use to identify your goals.
