Thanks for your comment, Goofblogger. I agree that stopping in the middle of conversations to answer electronic gizmos is pathetic - and I find it rude as well, generally speaking, depending on the situation. If I'm with close friends and family during informal times, I don't mind someone taking what could be an important call on their cell phone - but to have someone come into my office for a formal appointment and want to answer their cell just because it is ringing is quite disrespectful of my time.

Electronic planners are ok, but I hate carrying all of that excess junk around. Buzzing this and beeping that...too distracting. Having lunch with someone that stops in the middle of a conversation just to answer a silly gizmo is pathetic and comical at the same time.

Paper and pen is less confrontational and less in your face.

Thanks for your comment, Lori. Since going back to my Franklin, I really have found a major improvement in how I spend my time on what is important to me. The act of writing it out each day seems to have an effect on my mind as far as motivation and knowing what I want to get done, and what is really important to me that an electronic planner just doesn't give me.

Thanks for a great post - it really made me think about the way I track my daily tasks. I've carried a very old Palm for years for my calendar, but I have a binder and notebook on my desk to track my goals, tasks, etc. I also use the sticky note philosophy, and carry sticky notes in my car "just in case". I used to carry Franklin's system before I went to my Palm and loved it because everything was in one place. Hmmm... guess I'm going to have to think about this one.

Hi Kat, thanks for your comment here.

Yes, I can see the benefit, especially if something is time based such as an appointment, to have an alarm to remind you that it's getting close to the time! :)

When I'm working on something, I sometimes lose track of time - and that is an advantage of an electronic calendar as it can be set to make a sound or pop up on your Desktop to remind you.

The only thing that I like about using an electronic planner (in this case, my phone) is the alarm function that reminds me that I have something to do. I do tend to forget especially since I am easily distracted.

However, for all the other things, I am in favor of pen and paper to organize. I can easily use them in a public place, without fearing that someone might snatch it off my hands! I carry my Moleskine notebook all the time, and it's great for spur-of-the-moment jottings. :)

You're right about saving your contacts in your cellphone. Though I don't have a car, I always make it a point that at least one of my phones have power in it. It's easier to retrieve people's names, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. that way. At this point, I am looking forward to learning how I can effectively use my paper planner. So I'll be back to read more of your stuff! :)

Thank you for your comment, Vikki.

I considered carrying a Palm as well simply for the address book information but I already keep the most important phone numbers I need on my cell phone. And if need be, I can charge my cell phone in the car when I'm driving so I have less worries about the battery getting low or running out of power with it.

I remember being in the same situation. I used to carry a paper planner around and just like you, I got envious so my boyfriend got me a Palm Pilot. I used it for a couple of months until I grew tired of using the stylus (and for other reasons). I'm back to using a paper planner for the same reasons you mentioned. But I still carry my Palm Pilot around though I'm not using it. I charge the thing sometimes. Haha.

Looking forward to reading your next article about how to use the Franklin planner. :)
