Often we find ourselves in a “rut,” that place where we perhaps from discouragement, or long hours of work without an immediate sense of pay off, we can get down on ourselves and end up feeling unmotivated.
If it’s happened to you, or is happening right now, one thing you can take comfort in: It happens to even the best and top performers from time to time. You are not alone.
Sometimes when we are looking at all the things we want to get done, and the time we have, we can get discouraged and end up procrastinating.
Procrastination is an interesting problem that can be caused by many different factors and often may be solved using a variety of techniques. Generally speaking though, it seems to be caused by a sense of fear of failure.
A little technique that might help you is to resolve to spend a few minutes with yourself each week and a notebook that I like to call your “Achievement Book.”
While you spend those few minutes with your Achievement Book, think about all the things you did accomplish in the past week. Often you might surprise yourself when you realize that you did get some things done that were necessary steps toward the achievement of your goals.
Then, take a moment to reflect on the fact that just as you were able to achieve and work towards completing some tasks over the past week, you can do the same moving forward into the next week.
It’s always important to have the confidence and ability in yourself that you can take those small steps forward in the right direction – and part of this confidence might come from realizing what you have done instead of constantly thinking in ways that overwhelm you, about what you need to do.
So get yourself a notebook, keep it private if you wish, and label it “My Achievement Book” and resolve that you will write out your weekly (or even daily should you wish) achievements in it.
Let me know if this idea helps you!
