How often do you set goals? And when you set goals for yourself, do you take time to review them?
Personally, I like to have a variety of long term, mid term and short term goals. My short term goals are usually set weekly and include smaller tasks that need to be completed if the mid and long term goals are going to be acheived. I like to do this on Friday before the beginning of the next week.
At the same time, I like to review the goals I had set for myself or my businesses the previous week, and being brutally honest, look at the goals that were not fully achieved and try to find out why.
There can be a multitude of reasons for goals not being acheived. Sometimes, the goal was a bit too challenging for the resources and time I had during the week. I might have slacked off when I could have been working. An emergency of some kind may have come up that took priority.
A review of what was acheived and what was not is a very important part of the goal setting process. Such reviews assist in setting or re-setting goals in the future, and you can learn more about what resources you need in order to acheieve a goal that you had set for yourself. Often, we might set a goal and realize that in order to complete it by the date we have set, we need more information, assistance, money, or some other factor that is important to it’s completion.
Sometimes when this happens, I’ve seen folks become discouraged and give up on goal setting. If this happens to you, ask yourself “If I hadn’t set this goal and actually done any work on it, would I be as close as I am to acheiving it?” The answer is probably “No!”
Tomorrow (Friday) is my weekly goal setting and review day. I know that tomorrow I’m going to see a few things that I did not complete or achieve. One of those goals has to do with this blog, in which I had set a goal of five posts this past week. I know why I did not achieve that, and I know what I need to do in order to acheive it next week.
But while I’m looking at the goals I did not achieve, I am also very careful to ensure that I recognize the goals that were achieved. Sometimes it can be disappointing at first to realize that some goals you set for yourself were not achieved and it is good to recognize that in order to understand where you need to make changes and what you need to do more of to get them done. But be sure to also give yourself a pat on the back for those goals you did accomplish!

The Wealthy Blogger

The Wealthy Blogger is just a guy who makes money online. I quit my full time job and now I earn a good (some would say very good) income through the amazing medium of the Internet. I know what it’s like to be poor. I know what it takes to drag one’s self up by the bootstraps and keep putting one foot in front of the other to get where you want to go....
Ya know… I’ve never been good at setting goals. I always have a vague idea of what I want to accomplish but never go as far as writing them down. I can see the benefits to doing so. It’s always good to have something specific to shoot for and you can reward yourself when you accomplish something. Good post.
