As previously mentioned, there are two ways you can increase your savings account:
1. Earn more.
2. Spend less.
Pretty simple, isn’t it? But if you are like most people, you don’t really want to spend less; you have dreams of being able to spend more than what you are right now. However, it is vital, if you haven’t already begun to do so, to set up a regular savings plan for yourself. No matter how small - even a dollar a week - is a positive habit and as you do begin to earn more, you can increase that amount you are putting aside for your future.
If you want to earn more, you have to identify how you can do that. If you are working for someone else, how can you make yourself more valuable to your employer? If you hate your job, what services or products could you sell that others will find value in and be willing to pay you for?
How much would you like to earn an hour? If you’d like to earn $100.00 an hour, what skills must you learn in order to be worth $100.00 an hour? If you had to pay someone $100.00 an hour to have them solve one of your problems or provide you with a service that you want, what would you expect of them? Now turn that around and find out what you need to know or what skills you need to learn so that you can eventually find people willing to pay you $100.00 an hour. Take any hourly rate that you want, whether it is 20.00, 40.00, 75.00 or whatever figure you’d like to earn with every hour of labor that you work.
Take a sheet of paper right now and make a list of what you need to learn or what areas you need to increase your skills. Once you’ve identified those, you can determine which are the most important priorities. Now, make a plan on how you can spend some of your time learning what you need to know in order to earn what it is you want to earn.
