How was your new year? Mine was interesting – I brought in 2009 at Pearson International Airport while talking on my cell phone. I had flown from Edmonton with a connecting flight in Calgary that I had concerns I would miss due to the flight from Edmonton being delayed.
I’m not sure where I picked it up, but somewhere in the previous week, I was exposed to a very nasty cold virus which changed some of my plans and caused a postponement of many of the thing on my “to-do” list. Thankfully, the virus didn’t really take over until I had returned to Ontario. That meant I was able to enjoy almost a week over the holiday season in Northern Alberta, which included a wonderful starry evening of cross country skiing. Even though it was -25 Celcius (about -14 F for American readers), with layering of clothing, I was actually perspiring after an hour of enjoying the trail.
Upon my return to Ontario, that aforementioned cold virus took ahold in ways that I haven’t experienced a cold in many years! I thought perhaps it was me and my immune system, but it was relieving in a way to discover that many others have been suffering with symptoms and duration that I had. A good four days was “wasted” in trying to rest, drink plenty of liquids, and more rest!
But thankfully, I’m just about back to my old self, and am looking forward to spending some more time on some ski trails here in Ontario with Colleen, and then in a couple of weeks, with my six year old “wee man” who has also been enrolled in some lessons and is so much fun to watch as he trucks right along the trails, big rosy cheeks and smiles even in the coldest weather.
Did I make any New Year resolutions? Not exactly. At least not in the sense that most people speak of New Year resolutions. However, I have resolved to do some things better in 2009 and learn some new skills.
How about you? Did you make any New Year resolutions like how many “resolve” to do something different, which lasts about 24 hours if that? Or did you include some reflection and write out some goals and a plan for their achievement so that the resolution has a much greater chance of actually being fulfilled – because you are acting with resolve?
