June 10th, 1752 is the date of an event that we’d all be telling our kids to never try!

Benjamin Franklin, a Founding Father of the United States of America was not only a politician and writer, he was a prolific inventor and someone who pursued knowledge like very few of any of us do. Poor and wealthy bloggers who hope to earn an income from their blogging should hold up Franklin as inspiration: His wealth came from writing and publishing Poor Richard’s Almanack and the Pennsylvania Gazette.

There continues to be some dispute over Franklin’s religious beliefs as some claim he held to the “Christian” faith - he was born into a Quaker family. However, it is clear from Franklin’s writings that he did not hold to Christian beliefs, but was a Deist.

If you ever get a chance to read Franklin’s autobiography, I’d highly recommend it to you.

Yes, on this day in history, June 10th 1752, Ben Franklin flew a kite in a thunderstorm with the line attached to the kite at one end and the other attached to a type of capacitor which collected an electrical charge.

At least this is the date that is attributed to the event - but there remains some skepticism whether this was an experiment that Franklin actually carried out - or merely thought of trying.
