As a follow up to yesterday’s post on improving your adsense earnings, I thought I’d provide a quick tutorial on how you can track different Adsense settings and placements on your websites. This how to guide assumes that you already have an Adsense account.
You should of course, log into your Adsense account. Then, you will click on the “Adsense Setup” tab, and then the tab in the row underneath, “Channels.”
You can start adding new channels by giving each one a unique name. For example, if you want to track ads on a blog, you might name that channel “my_blog.” Ads served on the front page of your site might be in a channel named “front_page.” Or, if you want to test out different ad styles and placements, you could have “front_page1,” “front_page2,” and so forth for your channel names. There is no limit to the number of channels you can have, and of course you may add more channels in the future, and delete old ones.
You may also want to consider keeping a spreadsheet which list what pages contain which types of ads by their channel name, especially if you have a large site and you’re doing a lot of experimenting across the site.
Now that you’ve created channels, you can go to the “Get Ads” tab and begin creating your ad styles using the different colors and sizes that are offered by Google. Once you’ve created an ad, you will be asked which channel it is to be part of and Google provides the code.
Now, when you are checking your Adsense account reports, you can click on the link that says “top channels” and get a breakdown of how the various channels are performing. If you’re unsatisfied with the CTR (Click Through Rate), then it’s time to make some adjustments to the placement and/or other options Google provides with regard to color and size of the ads - and start analyzing results again.
You might be surprised how much of a difference just a bit of tweaking can do!

The Wealthy Blogger

The Wealthy Blogger is just a guy who makes money online. I quit my full time job and now I earn a good (some would say very good) income through the amazing medium of the Internet. I know what it’s like to be poor. I know what it takes to drag one’s self up by the bootstraps and keep putting one foot in front of the other to get where you want to go....
Some of us are pretty stupid when it comes to stuff like this. This will go in the bookmark file fer sure.
