It is common for those new to web sites or blogs to think about PR and their Alexa rating. Many times I have seen them excited when it finally goes higher than 0.

After some time they begin to realize that it doesn't really matter too much. People don't visit a web site because of the PR, especially since many don't even know what a PageRank is. They visit because they like what the author has to say.

Unique content has always been king, and will continue to be king.

Thanks, Lisa. Good to know that other website owners have similar experiences and insights to what I've seen. Thank you for your comment!

I agree with this post. Too many people get overly obsessed over their PR. My PR on my site (not my blog) used to be a 5 years ago but is now a 4 although my Google traffic is higher than ever. So even though I monitor my PR, Alexa rank, etc. I realize they don't necessarily reflect your traffic or site's potential for more traffic.

Don't worry about being an "average" student. I was a failure most of the time in high school and college - to this day, I don't even know how I got accepted to college (which had nothing to do with what I'm doing now).

It took me three years to finish a two year college course. I graduated with about a 67% average.

But regardless of that, keep in mind that one of the best ways to learn something is to teach others.

Oh boy, I haven't really thought of that! But that's a wonderful idea! I used to tutor students before (from pre-schoolers to college students) and I never thought of doing that through the internet! And thanks for the compliment. :) But really, I'm just an average student.

Thanks a lot! You've got really creative ideas and I love learning from people like you.

Thanks for your comment Vikki and thank you for being a regular visitor here! I have not forgotten about my promised quick tutorial on using the Franklin Day planner efficiently - and will get to that!

As far as being "good," thanks for the compliment - but truly what we've been "good" at is what anyone can be good at - persistence.

At my office, we find subjects that interest us, learn as much as we can, create a site, and create content. One site has grown so much that I have other people regularly submitting content to me for consideration and in return they get a link back to their site.

I note in your "Who Is Vikki" page on your blog, you're a biochemistry student and a business analyst! Now, I'm going to turn around and say, "You're Good!" I doubt I'd last a month at University taking biochemistry courses.. but I have to admit there are some things in the field that interest me. Having a "wee man," a wonderful five year old, I get to help out with "experiments" and things like that.

Now... think of your own possibilities here as far as useful content sites! Perhaps you could create a site around the field of biochemistry. Perhaps offer tutorials to other students, and then maybe even grow that to get paid for tutorial services via the Internet!

Here's another idea that just popped into my head: How about a site where you come up with information and experiments for parents of little kids that have an interest in just about everything and help parents teach their kids about biochemistry?

See, there are ALL sorts of things you already are capable of doing! :)

I won't charge you any consulting fees ;)
