The other day, while thinking about a helpful article for you in regard to having a positive attitude, I came across this post by Janet Giacoma entitled “The Abundant Mindset To Attract More.”
You should go read it. Read more below:
First, Janet talks about the idea of “changing your thought process.” This idea is perhaps one of the most, if not the most, important concepts that anyone who wants to change their life, should know about: It is possible to change your habits of thinking!
Indeed, it is your habits of thinking that have got you where you are right now. When a person can take personal responsibility for his or her own thoughts - and discard the common excused of “well, this is just me, I can’t do anything about it” nonsense, they are well over 50% of the way to turning their dreams into goals.
This is the only life you have. It ain’t a dress rehearsal for something else. Yes, there may be an “afterlife,” and there may be opportunities for you after you are turned to dust on this earth - but this is really all you know for sure - right now. Your mind, your thoughts at this very present moment are all that you can know.
There is indeed, very little you can control externally - but you can control EVERYTHING internally. And that includes how you decide to think about anything and everything.
How do you WANT to think? Do you aspire to having a happy life? Do you aspire to doing more than you are doing now? Do you aspire, regardless of your religious beliefs, or philosophies about life, to be an “overcomer?” An overcomer of struggles, of past disappointments?
You can! If you change your thoughts.
Anything your mind can conceive is possible - if you are willing to take total and complete responsibility for your life up to this point, and going forward. And yes, for many of us that have gone through some rough times, it might seem easy to blame our ways of thinking on past experiences, past issues, and hurts, disappointments, and come up with all sorts of excuses. Brian Tracy calls this “excusitis.”
In Janet’s post mentioned above, she writes,
“Gratitude - Remind yourself how thankful you are for what you have. This will sometimes take some doing when you’re ankles deep in a quagmire, but we are where we are for a reason - try to learn the lesson and be thankful.”
I’d suggest to you to take the attitude of gratitude even further: Remind yourself how thankful you are for what you know today. When things have seemed to have been “crappy” in your life, be thankful for that! It’s information - information that you can take and learn from. Some bit of information you needed to know in order to get on with your own life, and take responsibility for it.
We all go through many occasions where life throws curve balls, and we can either choose to be frustrated by those curve balls.. or keep on swinging, and learning more about them. I can personally look back on my own life, and note the times where I felt negative emotions - but it was probably the best thing for me to go through to learn something new, and to improve some part of my life.
Be thankful for those moments when at first, it seems nothing is going right! You’re learning what it doesn’t take to make your life what you want it to be, and therefore, you are learning that doing something else might be just the ticket. Don’t forget what some say is the definition of insanity: “Doing the same things over and over again, and expecting a different result.’
View what you have considered your failures as simply learning experiments. And be as thankful for what you might have seen as “failures” as you are for those things that propel you forward.
Be thankful for everything. Have an attitude of gratitude for all that life throws your way.
